Housing development in Awka, the capital city of Anambra State, has taken a major leap with the commissioning of a multi-million naira four three-storey buildings aimed at reducing the accommodation problems in the ‘Light of the Nation’ state.

The estate located in the high brow area of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Awka branch boasts a good road network constructed by the immediate past government of Mr. Peter Obi to fast-track the development of the area.

The owner of the property, Chief Hygers Igwebuike, a retired army officer, said he decided to answer the call by the state government for people to join hands with it in providing decent accommodation for the increasing population.

Igwebuike said: “It is unfortunate that many workers in the state still reside outside the state because of lack of accommodation.

“When I decided to embark on this project, many people felt it was not a good decision. However I was determined to after praying over it.

“I thank God that this project has finally been realised and I promise to develop more estates in the state capital as part of my contribution towards the development of Anambra State.”

Igwebuike added that when the project was started, it looked as if it was not realisable. He urged other people who have the means to also take advantage of the incentives provided by the state government in housing development of the state.

Speaking at the occasion, the deputy governor of the state, Dr. Nkem Okeke, who commissioned the houses on behalf of Governor Willie Obiano, commended Igwebuike for embarking on the project, saying that it was in line with the housing policy of the state government.

Dr. Okeke described housing as one of the priorities of the present administration, assuring that government would welcome contributions from Anambrarians to help achieve the policy.
