A pregnant woman has been beaten into coma by an aggressive male trader while seeking shelter from a heavy rain that pummeled the commercial city of Onitsha in Anambra State on Wednesday.

News Express learnt that the trader who beat Mrs. Chinyere Atuegwu, a seven months pregnant woman, unconscious, is already in custody at the Central Police Station, Onitsha.

According to the husband to the victim, Mr. Okey Atuegwu, the suspect beat his wife into comma at No. 12 Bright Street, Main Market, when she tried to get shield from the heavy rain.

Atuegwu said: “I was told that my wife was beaten into coma by one trader at Bright Street, Onitsha. When I got to the hospital, I inquired from my wife and she told me how she was pushed and molested by the suspect just because she ran into his shop to take refuge because of the heavy rain. I was still in shock why a fellow family man could do this to his fellow man’s pregnant wife that was the situation I found myself.”

The suspect had reportedly made useful statements concerning the incident to the police.
