Liverpool Manager Jurgen Klopp celebrating with his players at Wembley
Liverpool continued their perfect start in the English Premier League, recording a fifth win of the season at Wembley, to the chagrin of hosts Tottenham Hotspur.
Goals either side of half-time from Georginio Wijnaldum and Roberto Firmino assured a comfortable 2-0 win, but the visitors were rattled in the last few minutes of the game when Spur’s midfielder Erik Lamela cut the gap in stoppage-time effort.
Relief was palpable on the faces of the visitors and their coach, Jurgen Klopp when the referee Michael Oliver blew the final whistle on 95th minute to give Liverpool 15 points at the summit of the League.
Rivals, Chelsea and Watford will know whether they can keep pace in later matches today.
Football buffs believe that if Liverpool could maintain the present level of performance, they stand a good chance to emerge true contenders for Manchester City’s throne.
James Milner, Liverpool midfielder said of the match: “I’m very proud, it’s such a tough place to come. It was a top performance and it could have been even better. We created chances, not just through attacking but defending as well. It’s a great place to come and get three points.” (NAN)
