Eagles battle to a draw in pre-World Cup friendly (Nigeria 2 Scotland 2)

Nigeria’s Super Eagles minutes ago battled to a 2-2 draw with Scotland as they started their Brazil 2012 World Cup build-up with a friendly match at Craven Cottage, London.

Nigerian Manager Stephen Keshi lined up his second 11 in the first half and brought in the likes of Osaze Odemwingie, Victor Moses and Efe Ambrose in the second half.

Although the Eagles displayed better skills, they failed to translate this into goals. Second choice goalkeeper Austin Ejide compounded issues with his terrible performance, hardly catching the ball when tried, while the defence had a mouthful in Nigerian international Ikechi Anya, who prefers to play for Scotland.

The Scots took the lead in the 10th minute when Charlie Mulgrew deftly deflected James Morrison’s shot into the corner beyond Ejide.

Nigeria trailed until shortly before half time when Michael Uchebo unleashed a powerful shot which deflected off goalie Hanley for the equaliser in the 41st minute.

Scotland re-established their lead shortly on the restart courtesy of a 52nd own goal by defender Azubuike Egwueke.

When it seemed as if the Eagles were doomed to lose, substitute Uche Nwofor struck in the 90th minute to leave scores at two-all and eave Nigeria’s pride intact.
