The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students led by Comrade Danielson Bamidele Akpan has kicked against the upward review of tuition fees by the Management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Oshogbo, Osun State. It described the idea as “a neo-capitalist policy that stands to benefit only the elites, not the masses.”
Akpan in a statement issued on Tuesday said the association was “anguished by the draconian move, as Nigerian students had, over the years, been made to bear the brunt of administrative ineptitude of managers of tertiary institutions.”
He described the skyward review of tuition fees as unacceptable, adding that “it must be reversed or reduced drastically from the initial N120,000.00.”
The NANS President urged that the governments of Oyo and Osun states to intervene immediately, warning: “If appropriate measure is not taken by the concerned stakeholders, NANS will relocate her secretariat to LAUTECH.”
