Ronaldo draws blank as Portugal fall to Uruguay, crash out of World Cup

Two goals by Edinson Cavani in the 7th and 62nd minute saw off Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal out of the World Cup in Russia and qualified the South Americans for the quarter-finals against France.

Although Portugal’s Pepe in the 55th minute reduced the tally to 2-1, via a powerful header, the effort was not enough.

Ronaldo: This may be his last World Cup

Portugal dominated possession 61-39, but Cristiano Ronaldo, their magician was effectively neutralised by the Uruguayans. And the world may have seen his last appearance at a world cup, as he will be 37 in Qatar 2022.

His eternal rival, Lionel Messi had earlier crashed out of the tournament, when Argentina lost 3-4 to France, who will now meet Uruguay inFriday’s quarter-final in Nizhny Novgorod.
