Nnacheta vows to revolutionise sports in Anambra

The new Commissioner for Sports in Anambra State, Chief Tony Nnacheta, has expressed his resolve to take the ‘Light of Nation’ state back to the top ladder by engaging the restive youths of the state in all spheres of sports entertainment with particular reference to football.

Nnacheta, who is a former deputy chairman of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) – now known as NFF – made the statement at his country home, Awkuzu, in Oyi Local Government Area of the state. He said that the state used to be in the forefront in sports and should hasten to recover its glory.

“I have come to give a new face in sports entertainment and have our name in the map again,” Nnacheta said. “I wish to contribute to the goal of transforming Nigeria and I believe the moment is right. I hold also that it is feasible to achieve the key benchmarks where the political will is present and a critical mass of committed and knowledgeable Nigerians are empowered to drive it. I am very keen on projects implementation, service delivery and measurable results.”

The commissioner further said that his ability to conceptualise and team up in multi-task endeavours, combined with deadlines and budget as well as the experience he garnered at the national level through handling of challenging national and international projects, it would be an easy ride saddling the boat.

He added that in line with the vision and plans of Governor Willie Obiano, he was prepared to mobilise the youths, get them off the streets and get their energies rechanneled towards useful ends by promoting grassroots sports to fish out talents, especially in the area of football.

Nnacheta, who believes that the Super Eagles will do well at the Brazil 2014 World Cup if they remain focused and humble, thanked Governor Obiano for finding him worthy to serve the state, vowing to justify the confidence reposed in him.
