Dynamite blow up Junosa to advance to Edo Challenge Cup second round

Defending champions Dynamite Force FC have qualified for the second round of the 2014 Edo State Challenge Cup competition after an easy 2-1 win over Junosa FC at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.

The scoreline flattered a Junosa team dominated from start to finish by the Dynamite side that were always favourites to win this fixture.

Playing with confidence, Dynamite moved the ball around with swagger and purpose in search of early goals. They were duly rewarded in the early minutes when last year’s highest goal scorer in the same competition, Priestley Irogue, profited from a rebounded effort to slot home.

A quick second from an Uzoma volley just inside the penalty box gave Dynamite full confidence and left a dispirited Junosa with a steep mountain to climb in the second half.

On resumption of play, Dynamite never looked seriously threatened, and could have recorded more goals, but for the post, a good goalkeeper save, and a last-ditch tackle that all denied Irogue from adding to his tally on several occasions.

Junosa got a goal at the last second of two minutes of added time through Aliu Cannon, a tall and gangling attacker, who nodded brilliantly to the far post to bring some respectability to the scoreline for his team.

Cannon’s Seyi Adebayor-like military salute celebration of his goal drew applause and wide laughter from the fans at the stadium.
