National Conference: Youth leader advocates drastic reduction of cost of governance, capital punishment for corruption, peoples’ constitution

A recommendation for a drastic reduction in the cost of governance, capital punishment for corrupt government and private officials, and a peoples’ constitution as a way of eradicating corruption in governance has been proposed at the on-going National Conference in Abuja.

The proposal was made yesterday by former President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria and past President of the Pan-African Youth Union, Comrade Ben Duntoye.

Comrade Duntoye, who gave kudos to some elders at the confab who owned up and apologised to the youth for their mistakes of the past, added that there is a need to underplay religion, tribalism, and indigeneship if Nigeria must develop.

The youth leader described job creation as a key component of good governance and urged Nigerians to place less emphasis on white collar jobs, especially federal government jobs which are seen to have better remuneration and retirement benefits. He advised people to focus more on skill acquisition and development of the private sector as the key employer of labour with a view to become part of the world entrepreneurship renaissance.

Comrade Duntoye however warned that the youth will no longer tolerate acts capable of destroying the future of the nation as being perpetrated by some unscrupulous Nigerian politicians.
