Plateau State Governor, Dr. Jonah David Jang, is being targeted by the Boko Haram terrorist sect, a report from Jos, the state capital, has said.

The report, which appeared in today’s edition of the authoritative Guardian newspaper, has it that a State House of Assembly member, Daniel Dem, is also being trailed by Boko Haram, allegedly on the orders of the group’s leader, Sheikh Abubakar Mohammed Shekau. The Guardian said that “the three members of the group who have been assigned to trail” Jang Dem “have been given enough time to carry out that operation.”

The paper did not indicate what Jang and Dem have done to incur the wrath of the terrorist group which has made life a nightmare in Nigeria’s North-East. A Christian-dominated state, Plateau is in the North-Central.

“Another dimension may also have emerged in the Boko Haram insurgency problem as the militant sect has threatened to attack some institutions in Plateau State with explosive devices,” The Guardian also reported.

The paper said it was in possession of a circular in which Sheikh Shekau instructed some Boko Haram members in the state to send the list of institutions that, if attacked, will cause serious injuries to the state.

As reported by the paper, “The list of institutions allegedly sent to the Boko Haram leader include the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, University of Jos, Plateau State University Bokkos, Federal College of Education, Pankshin, College of Education, Gindiri, Major Seminary, Katako, Jos, Federal Government College, Jos and Science School, Kuru.

“Other institutions slated for attack any moment from now include Command Secondary School, Jos, St. John’s Vianey Barkin Ladi, St. John’s College, Jos, St. Murumba College, Jos, St. Louis College, Jos, GSS Laranto, Jos, two secondary schools in Bokkos Local Council and Church of Christ in Nation (COCIN), Dadin Kowa, Jos South Local Council.”

The Guardian quoted the President of the Student Union Government (SUG) of the University of Jos, Ajik Magaji Izang, as saying that he had a hint that members of the Boko Haram sect are already in Jos.

“He said they are educating the fresh students to be security conscious and report any strange object to the security personnel for immediate action,” the paper reported.

“But the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the State Police Command, Superintendent Felicia Anslem, said she did not want to believe that there is Boko Haram in Jos, adding however that all should be conscious and vigilant,” the paper said.

Contacted by the paper, the Special Adviser to Governor Jang on Political Matters, Nde Alexander Molwus, said that he was not aware of the Boko Haram circular.
