The new Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, has followed the example of his immediate predecessor, Chief Peter Obi, by pitching his tent with the faction of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) led by Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State.
Obiano, who assumed office on March 17, yesterday demonstrated his support for Jang by attending the NGF meeting held in Abuja, the Nigerian capital.
The NGF was united and strong until the re-election bid of Governor Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State split it into two following the disputed election of May 24, 2013. Amaechi currently leads the faction comprising governors belonging to his new party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), to which he defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on last November 26. Jang’s faction features PDP governors as well as the country’s only governors on the platforms of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Obiano, and Labour Party (LP), Olusegun Mimiko.
