Technological Development: FG ready to partner Techno

Communications Minister Adebayo Shittu



Minister of Communications, Dr. Adebayo Shittu, has said that the Federal Government through the Ministry would partner with Techno Nigeria Ltd to achieve the nation’s technological development drive.

He said this recently when the top management team of the company paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

Shittu stated that the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is fed up with the situation where Nigeria appears to be a dumping ground of foreign products, hence, the need to encourage local production of all brands of technological gadgets in the country which would also boost job creation amongst the teeming youth.

Reacting to the revelation of the team, who disclosed the company’s plans to establish a techno assembly plant in Nigeria, Shittu expressed delight over the development, describing it as a step towards the right direction.

The Minister, who said the establishment of an assembly plant in Nigeria is long overdue, urged the company to fast track the necessary arrangements, to make the plan a reality soon.

He promised that the Federal Government would do everything possible to ensure that Techno Nigeria succeeds, in as much as, it’s capable of enhancing the technological and other development needs of Nigeria and its people.

Shittu lauded the company for employing over 3,500 Nigerians and encourages them to do more to create job opportunities for the Nigerian youth.

Shittu called on the team to look beyond communication industry alone and think of exploring the starling opportunities in the solar power sector to proffer solutions for the nation’s power needs which would play a symbiotic advantage both to the company, the Nigerian Government and the populace.

Earlier in his speech, the General Manager of Techno Nigeria Limited, Mr. Chidi Okonkwo who led the delegation, thanked the Minister for availing them the audience and lauded him over what he described as amiable achievements recorded by him in the ICT Sector within the short time he has spent in the Ministry.

Chidi revealed that Techno products thrive in Nigerian market as a result of the enabling environment created by the Ministry of Communications and appealed for more support to sustain the favourable policies put in place as well as maintain the symbiotic relationship between the company and the government.

The General Manager said that despite the positive relationship that exists between the two parties, there was need for Techno to move nearer to the Ministry to seek for a closer ties and more in-depth support from the Government to enable them achieve more mandate in Nigerian market. He further disclosed that the company is set to establish a Techno Assembly Plant in Nigeria to boost the nation’s economy through job creation and in exchange of technological ideology.
