APC throws weight behind Rivers’ new Chief Judge •Tells opponents: ‘Sheathe your sword!’

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Rivers State Chapter, has appealed to all those opposed to the appointment of Hon. Justice Peter NC Agumagu as the new Chief Judge of the state to sheathe their sword.

“What Hon. Justice Agumagu needs is not further distraction but the cooperation of all to ensure speedy and effective dispensation of justice in Rivers State. Those opposed to his appointment should respect the right of the State Governor to appoint a Chief Judge for the state, the judgment of the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt, supporting his appointment by Governor Chibuike Amaechi, and his successful screening by the Rivers State House of Assembly,” APC Rivers said in a statement issued by the Interim State Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya.

Dr. Ikanya described Hon. Justice Agumagu, who acted in the capacity before being sworn in as substantive Chief Judge yesterday by Governor Amaechi, as being eminently qualified to hold the position. “Hon. Justice Agumagu is not only the most senior High Court judge in the state but has also served as a High Court judge for over ten years as required by law, besides being nominated for the position by the Rivers State Judicial Council,” the statement said.

APC Rivers congratulated the new Chief Judge and urged him to discharge his duties fairly and with fear of God so as to ensure that the judiciary remains the last hope of the common man.
