President Goodluck Jonathan is not yet done after the sack of over 15 ministers in the past few months. He “is set to continue with another six serving ministers’ names penciled down for removal any moment from now,” according to Nigerian Pilot.
“In line with this development, the President will this week submit to the senate for confirmation list of new ministerial nominees,” the paper, which is published by a close friend of Jonathan, reported this morning.
It said that “Jonathan had warned some ministers who recent assessment showed were below average in performance to get more serious or be fired,” adding:
“It also learnt that the president’s resolve to re-jig his cabinet is to allow current ministers who may have any form of political ambition to quit in ample time ahead of the fast approaching primaries of the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP to which they all belong.”
Meanwhile, media reports indicate that Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, whose tenure ends on March 17, will likely be joining Jonathan’s cabinet soon. Others tipped to become ministers include ex-Governors Ibrahim Shekarau (Kano) and Attahiru Bafarawa (Sokoto), as well as Senator Gbemisola Saraki (Kwara) – all recent decampees from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to PDP.
