The Chairman and Managing Director of Shell Companies in Nigeria, Mr. Mutiu Sunmonu, will on Wednesday, March 12, commission the Centre for Environmental Management and Control donated by Shell Petroleum Development Company JV at the Enugu campus of the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN).

The Shell Petroleum Development Company Joint Venture and the University of Nigeria signed the Trust Deed for the establishment of the Centre on July 13, 2010. Work commenced on the project following the laying of the foundation on Wednesday, November 24, 2010.

Shell CEMAC at UNEC is an international centre for the study of issues in the environment and for providing educational advancement in the area of environmental management and control through research, teaching, and consultancy in environmental studies, projects and publications.

The imposing two-floor building stands as a major landmark in the Enugu Campus of the UNN.

“It shall be an international centre of excellence for studies in environmental management and control with students coming from all over the globe. The centre will also support Shell’s capacity building and would receive students from any Shell company worldwide,” according to Prof Bartho Okolo, UNN Vice Chancellor.
