Unknown gunmen suspected to be armed robbers have shot a deputy director in the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) at his residence in Kinkinau GRA, Kaduna, North-West Nigeria.
Reports of the incident are sketchy. One version said the victim was shot dead in front of a shop while attempting to alight from his car to purchase some items at a shop near his house around 9pm on yesterday. “The shop owner who witnessed the shooting fainted because of the horror but was able to recover around 12 midnight,” a source said.
A police source who spoke to our reporter said the victim’s vehicle was abandoned by the assailants.
The second source said the victim was ambushed and shot dead in front of his house while waiting for the gate of the house to be opened. “He shouted to his brother not to open the gate, upon realizing that he was being ambushed. I believe that is what infuriated the assailants, who pumped several rounds of bullets into his chest from his lying down position,” the source said.
Chairman of Kinkinau Community Association, Alhaji Musa Dan’azumi, and assistant chairman of the Petroleum Tankers Association (PTD), Kaduna chapter, confirmed the incident, describing it as shocking and unfortunate. He called on the police to fish out the killers and urged the family to bear the loss with fortitude.
News Express gathered that Kinkinau community situated opposite Ungwan Muazu has come under attack several times since the creation of the new layout about 10 years ago, a situation that made the community to donate a van to the police to intensify patrols in the area.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) and newly promoted, Superintendent Aminu Lawal, did not respond to a text message sent to his number.
