The performance of Nigeria’s Super Eagles in the just-concluded African Nations Championship (CHAN) in South Africa is good enough to get some of the players clubs in Europe, a reputable international players’ agent has said.
Obinna Chukwudi Emelogu, who is licensed by world football governing body FIFA, is however of the opinion the display of the home Eagles is only good enough to earn them a place in Europe’s lower leagues and not in the top flight.
“Few of them can get contracts in lower leagues in Europe, but they still have a lot to learn,” Emelogu, who is the agent of Super Eagles defence linchpin Kenneth Omeruo, told News Express over the weekend.
He expressed worry over what he sees as a lack of basic training that affects the technical, tactical and mental abilities of the local players. “I have said it times without number that the problem we have in our football is (lack of) basic training of our players,” he stated, adding:
“Honestly, we were supposed to win our match against Ghana if only our strikers buried the few chances they created. We must perfect the art of scoring chances. That’s why the likes of Brazil are ruling the world of football today.”
Despite his disappointment with Nigeria's semi final loss to Ghana, Emelogu considers Nigeria’s third place finish as a success. “Yes it was considering the fact that we just debuted at the competition,” he said.
