For Nigeria’s Super Eagles, it was an anti-climax as they dominated Ghana’s Black Stars for 120 minutes in the second semi-final of the 2014 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) in South Africa but failed to convert their chances, losing 1-4 in the ensuing penalty shootouts.

Ghana played with a man down from the 63^rd minute after defender Kwabina Adusei got a second yellow card for rough play. The Eagles created chance upon chance but failed to convert any – with substitute Barnabas Imenger as the worst culprit.

In the penalty shootouts at the Free State Stadium in Mangaung in South Africa, only Ejike Uzoenyi, who took Nigeria’s first kick, found the net. Solomon Kwambe’s kick was saved by Goalie Adams while Ugonna Uzochukwu simply balloon his own.

The match followed the pattern of the first semi-final at the same venue: After dominating Libya, Zimbabwe failed to score, only to see Libyan goalkeeper Mohamed Nashnush Abduala make two penalty saves and convert one to guide his team to a 5-4.

While Nigeria and Zimbabwe will now play for bronze, Ghana look set to beat Libya on Saturday and take home the trophy.
