2014 Rivers State Budget illegal —PDP; vows to frustrate it

The 2014 Rivers State Budget presented yesterday by Governor Chibuike and swiftly passed by the State House of Assembly has been dismissed as illegal and an exercise I futility by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Amaechi belonged to the PDP until last November 26 when he defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Addressing newsmen at the State PDP Secretariat in Port Harcourt later yesterday, the state chairman of the party, Felix Obuah, described the presentation and passage of the N485.5 billion budget during a sitting by the lawmakers at the Government House as a criminal act which would not be allowed to stand.

Hear him: “The attention of the Rivers State PDP has been drawn to the illegal presentation of 2014 budget at Government House, Port Harcourt, right inside Governor Amaechi’s office, outside the hallowed chambers of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

“The PDP describes the action to present the 2014 budget outside the hallowed chamber of the Rivers State House of Assembly as illegal, criminal and of no effect. The PDP assures Rivers people and, indeed, the generality of Nigerians, that the illegality cannot be allowed to stay in Rivers State.

“Therefore, the illegal budget presentation at Government House today cannot stand the test of time. Therefore, we reject the budget presented by Governor Amaechi today. The budget is illegal, presenting it outside the hallowed chambers is also illegal and of no effect. The budget will not see the light of the day.”
