Three policemen were shot dead last night in Kano State, North-West Nigeria, while trying to foil the kidnap of Alhaji Musa Kwankwaso, father of the State Governor, Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
The incident happened at about 7:30 p.m. in Kwankwaso town, the governor’s hometown in Madobi local government area of the state, according to a report in LEADERSHIP.
“The governor’s father is unhurt and now in protective custody,” says the report, which quotes an eyewitness as disclosing that the governor’s father and some other Muslim faithful were coming from the mosque after their Isha’i prayers when the attackers struck.
The senior Kwankwaso has the traditional title of Maji Dadin Sarkin Kano and is also the district head of Madobi Local Government.
LEADERSHIP says the police public relation officer, Kano Police Command, ASP Magaji Musa Majiya, confirmed that gunmen attacked a mosque in Kwankwaso town last night but that the details were sketchy.
