It was a sad day yesterday in the office of Niger State Governor, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu, as his private guest, a mother of three, suddenly slumped and died three minutes after being ushered into his office.
Accounts of the incident as contained in several dailies identified the woman as Hajiya Bilkisu Mahmoud, a retired civil servant who until her death was a staff of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency.
Hajiya Bilkisu, 46, was said to be on a private visit as her name was not in the protocol list of people to see the governor. She was said to be suffering from asthma and to have waited for several hours before it was her turn to see the governor.
She was “immediately rushed to the General Hospital, Minna, with a Government House ambulance. Doctors at the hospital confirmed her dead on arrival,” the reports said.
Governor Aliyu reportedly hurried out of his office after the incident. The state government is yet to react to the incident.
