Four officers were feared killed as unknown gunmen this afternoon attacked of a GTBank pick-up van near the bank’s branch at Amigo junction along Nnamdi Azikwe way in Kaduna, North-West Nigeria.
Eyewitnesses say the police officers had just closed from their duty post at the bank and were to be conveyed to their offices when they were attacked around 4:30 p.m.
An eyewitness said: “The gunmen just came from nowhere on a motorcycle and opened fire on the police officers who just closed from duty at the bank. Everybody started scampering for safety before security agents took control and cordoned off the area.
“The gunmen zoomed off as they continued to shoot sporadically, leaving the lifeless bodies of the victims in the pool of their own blood.”
The Police Public Relations Officer, Kaduna State Police Command, DSP Aminu Lawal, while confirming the incident said: “It is too earlier for us to say whether the officers are dead because the incident just happened not quite 30 minutes ago and they have been taken to the hospital. We are waiting for the doctor’s report before we can ascertain that.
“We have also responded to the incident and will give you details very soon.”
