Wives of soldiers taken away as part of the booty by Boko Haram terrorists who attacked the Nuhu Muhammed Barracks in Bama, Borno State, last Friday (December 20), have escaped from their captors.
This cheering news was broken to newsmen in Abuja this afternoon by the Borno State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Shettima, shortly after briefing President Goodluck Jonathan.
The governor dismissed reports that the Nuhu Muhammed Barracks has become deserted, saying that the reverse was the case.
“Soldiers are providing security. I am the one on ground and in a situation to tell you what is happening,” the governor said.
It is, however, not clear if all the kidnapped soldiers' wives escaped and the fate of the kidnapped children remain unclear.
News Express recalls that an unknown number of soldiers’ wives and children were taken away by the Boko Haram fighters who attacked the military barracks around 2:30 a.m. The daring raid on the barracks located in the border town with Cameroon lasted for about three hours.
Unconfirmed reports said that about 13 soldiers, 18 women and children and about 100 Boko Haram sect members were killed during the attack.
