Fire has completely gutted the residence of Mohammed Danhanne Isah, a retired Major General and former Commander, Infantry Corps Center, Jaji, Kaduna State.
Eyewitnesses said the fire started on Friday night and lasted up to 12 noon on Saturday.
No life was however lost.
Mr. Isah, while confirming the incident to newsmen at the gutted residence at 22, MD Isah Road, near Kaduna State Legislative Quarters, Ungwan Dosa, said:
“My family and I were at the parlour downstairs. We were only alerted about the fire in our bedrooms upstairs by the two hours after it started.
“As you can see, the clothes on me and my wife are the only things we escaped with from the inferno.
“But we thank God that no live was lost during the incident.”
Mr Isah said the fire which started at about 9pm on Friday completely razed the building.
“All important documents, including my travel documents to United Kingdom scheduled for Wednesday, have been completely burned,” the veteran soldier lamented.
The General Officer Commanding One Division (GOC 1Div), Maj.-Gen. Adeniyi Oyebade, was among first callers at Isah’s residence on Saturday to console him over the incident.
Oyebade expressed shock over the incident and urged the family to take solace in God.
Senator Mohammadu Magoro, Deputy Senate Leader Bala Ibn Na’Allah, Governor of Kebbi State Atiku Bagudu also called to sympathise with the retired General over the incident.
