Governor Ikpeazu
The Ngwa Patriot Forum, a socio-cultural and socio-political organisation dedicated towards the developmental aspirations of the Ngwa people of Abia State, rose from its 2017 first quarterly summit at Ibom Le Meridien Hotel & Resorts, Uyo, to make stronger commitments towards supporting community development initiatives, especially in the area of provision of safe and portable drinking water and medical outreach programme in very remote communities across the seven LGAs of Ngwa land.
President of the group, Chief Okey Ahiwe, in a speech at the summit said the initiative is the group’s own way of supporting and complementing the giant strides of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s administration in infrastructural development across the state.
The Forum also resolved to synergise with the Justice LTC Eruba-led Editorial Committee saddled with the responsibility of documenting the history and trajectories of Ngwa ethnic nationality for posterity and encyclopaedic purposes.
The quarterly summit, which had as its theme, ‘Supporting Community Development Initiatives in Times of Economic Recession’, approved the flag-off of the Safe Water Initiative, which will ensure the provision of two water borehole systems in two rural locations in Ngwa land, and serve as the take-off point for the seven rural project initiatives embarked upon by the forum in the seven LGAs of Ngwa land.
The summit which was attended by well-meaning Ngwa people, development partners and technical facilitators also passed a vote of confidence on Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s administration, saying that the government has performed creditably well in spite of the unnecessary post-election legal distractions.
The forum said its decision to adopt and support the Governor has been justified and therefore called on the good people of Abia State to rally round the Governor to ensure the full realization of his mandate for the people.
Speaking at the occasion, also, the Forum’s Director of Publicity, Mr. Uzoma Ihuka, disclosed that community development efforts will form the next phase of strategic actions to be executed by the forum and this will range from providing basic facilities for the less privileged, healthcare campaigns to micro-empowerment provisions for the indigent members of the communities.
The summit featured presentations on Crypto-currencies in Financial Transactions by experts from Bitcom, Documentary on the History of Ngwa Ethnic Nationality/Ngwa Language Development, launching of the forum’s medical outreach for all the Ngwa LGAs taking off by Easter 2017 and supported by facilitators from MTN and many other side attractions.
