Bauchi lawmakers demand return of state’s aircraft to ATB Airport

Members of the Bauchi State House of Assembly have demanded the return of the state aircraft to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport.

The members who were reportedly disturbed by the continued loss of revenue and payment of ground rent by the state summoned the management of the state-owned aircraft to explain the situation of the aircraft.

The state is said to be losing almost N3m every month for expenses on the grounded aircraft at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos.

Maryam Bagel representing Dass Constituency in a motion she filed before the Assembly said that it was disheartening that lack of a reliable plane has led to low patronage of Bauchi Airport.

The Speaker Kawuwa Damina who presided over the session said it was reported that the aircraft is unserviceable and therefore could not be allowed to take-up unless the authorities responsible for the safety of aircraft guaranteed its operation.

It could be recalled that the aircraft was bought during Governor Yuguda administration to assist the state increase her revenue intake and ease the cost of chartering planes for government functions by the state government.

The plane which became stranded in Morocco earlier was brought back to the state by Governor Mohammed Abubakar. (Daily Trust)
