Chief of Army Staff, Gen Turkur Buratai
Ukraine has expressed readiness to partner with the Nigerian army to end insurgency in the country.
Ukraine Ambassador to Nigeria, Valerii Aleksandruk, made the disclosure when he paid a courtesy call to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Turkur Buratai, in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
Aleksandrnk said Ukraine is ready to open a new page of Military Corporation with the Nigerian Military.
The Chief of Army Staff, while congratulating him on his new appointment, said the ties between the two countries could be further strengthened through mutual support to end terror.
Buratai noted that Ukraine has been a close ally of Nigeria and supported the Nigerian Army in its fight against terror in the North East.
Ukraine’s partnership follows a similar assurance by the United States to partner with the Nigerian army in its fight against terrorism and other criminalities in the nation.
About 100,000 people have been killed since the start of the Boko Haram insurgency in 2009.
Most of the attacks happened in three north-eastern states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe.
The sect also carried out attacks in neighboring countries like Cameroon, Chad, and Niger.
However, in the last two years, the Nigerian security forces and regional forces from Cameroon, Chad, and Niger have made important progress in pushing Boko Haram out of the towns and villages of northeast Nigeria and the broader Lake Chad Basin region. (TV360 Nigeria)
