The people of Okigwe zone have appealed to Governor Rochas Okorocha to re-contest the 2015 gubernatorial election in Imo State, vowing that the poll would not hold if he refuses to offer himself for the position.
They made the vow Monday during a peaceful rally in the state capital Owerri in appreciation of the numerous track records of Governor Okorocha since he assumed office in 2011.
Speaking on behalf of the demonstrators, Mr. Steve Ojidike said that Okorocha has made Okigwe zone people proud by building Princess Hotel and general hospitals, in addition to the dualisation of Okigwe-Owerri Road, offered free education as well as the distribution of learning materials to Imo children.
The group therefore warned the PDP-led Federal Government to steer clear of the state, saying that Imo State is not for sale.
Addressing the group at the Government House, the Chief of Staff and Commissioner for Special Duties, Sir Jude Ejiogu, commended them for appreciating hard work and selfless service, pointing out that Governor Okorocha is working tirelessly to bring back the beauty of the state and make it a better place to live.
Sir Ejiogu informed them that the slogan “Share the Money” that was popularised during previous administrations has been phased out as, according to him, the resources of the state are now being used to develop the society.
The Chief of Staff described Okigwe LGA as the habitat of revered political bigwigs, assuring them of government’s readiness to make the people of the area self-sufficient. He appealed to them to remain law abiding and pray to God to sustain Governor Okorocha to complete his good works in the state.
