FIFA is expected to propose distributing more than $6 billion back into football between 2027 and 2030, more than double the amount previously earmarked for the period, The Athletic reported Wednesday.
Under the proposal, each of FIFA's 211 member associations would receive $25 million over the four-year cycle, up from a planned $10 million, while each of the six continental confederations would receive $99 million.
To finance the increase, FIFA would distribute more than $3.5 billion from its financial reserves, citing the commercial success of the expanded 48-team World Cup, according to the report.
The FIFA Council is expected to discuss the plan Thursday.
If approved, it would undergo consultations before potentially being finalized by the council in December, with final approval required at the FIFA Congress next March.
The proposed funding increase comes as FIFA President Gianni Infantino faces pressure to step down following the collapse of his FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal, with leaders of UEFA (for Europe), Concacaf (for North, Central America, and the Caribbean), and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) joining efforts to challenge his presidency.
The abandoned plan sought to attract private investment in FIFA's commercial operations, including rights associated with the World Cup.
Infantino is seeking reelection at the FIFA Congress in Rabat, Morocco, next March. (AA)
