Late ex-Edo PDP chairman Orbih
The remains of former Edo State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Dan Orbih, have been taken to his hometown of Ogbonna in Etsako Central Local Government Area for burial.
Orbih is expected to be buried after a church service in the community.
His remains arrived in Benin City from Abuja on Friday and were received by Governor Monday Okpebholo and other political figures in the state.
The governor, family members, friends, political associates and government officials accompanied the remains from the airport to Orbih’s residence in the Government Reservation Area (GRA), Benin City, for a brief lying-in-state ceremony.
Speaking at the ceremony, Okpebholo described Orbih’s death as a great loss to Edo State, saying the deceased was more than a political associate to him.
“He was a brother. At times like this, when the loss is difficult to bear, we can only turn to God for comfort and strength.
“I pray that God will give us all the courage and fortitude to bear this great loss.
“I also pray that God will protect the family, strengthen them during this difficult period and provide them with the grace to carry on,” he said.
The officiating priest, Fr Palmer Ikponmwosa, described Orbih as a prominent figure in Edo politics, a skilled political strategist, leader and kingmaker.
An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, also paid tribute to the deceased, describing him as a generous and compassionate man who helped many people.
“I can only imagine how all those who benefited from his kindness must be feeling following his demise,” he said. (The Nation)
