The Adamawa State Police Command has commenced investigation into the death of a tea seller, Muhammad Auwal Idris, at a popular ‘banga joint’ in Nassarawa Quarters of Yola North Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

According to reports, the late tea seller was attending to customers at his business premises when a member of a group ordered tea worth N50 and was served as requested.

Trouble, however, started when Idris asked the customer to pay for the tea.

A disagreement ensued between him and the group when the deceased returned to collect his money.

The development was followed by a confrontation, which led to a physical attack on the deceased, who reportedly died after being severely beaten by members of the group.

Spokesman of the Adamawa Police Command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed that the command had commenced a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Nguroje explained that on September 28, 2026, one Aliyu Idris, a brother of the deceased, reported the incident at the Doubeli Divisional Headquarters.

Nguroje said that upon receipt of the report, a team of police operatives was immediately mobilised to the scene, where the victim was found lying unconscious and was rushed to a health facility.

He said the victim was, however, examined and certified dead by the medical doctor on duty.

According to Nguroje, preliminary investigation has commenced, while the identities of the persons allegedly involved in the incident have been established as Isa, Japhet, Omo and Henry.

He added that the suspects are currently at large, while efforts are ongoing to track them down, apprehend them and bring them to justice.

Our Correspondent reports that residents have expressed displeasure over the incident and demanded justice for the deceased, saying this would serve as a deterrent to others. (Daily Trust)
