Super Eagles players
The Super Eagles of Nigeria departed the country on Sunday for Bissau ahead of their next Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027 qualifier match.
The contingent left the country from the Victor Attah international airport in Akwa Ibom, Uyo where the team earlier played and defeated Madagascar 2-1 at the Godswill Akpabio stadium on Friday.
The Super Eagles players are set to face Guinea-Bissau who defeated Tanzania 2-0 in their first match of the series in Group L. They top the group on better goals difference ahead of Nigeria.
The Super Eagles trained earlier in the morning before coach Eric Chelle and his players were spotted at the airport to board a chartered flight to their West African neighbour’s home later in the afternoon.
Nigeria will face the Djurtus, ranked 132nd in the world and 38th in Africa, at the 24th of September national stadium, on Tuesday, 29 September.
Guinea Bissau has met the Super Eagles four times and won once in 2023 during AFCON qualifiers, claiming a shock 1-0 win over Nigeria at the MKO Abiola stadium in Abuja.
Only the top-placed country in Group L will clinch AFCON 2027 qualification ticket, with Tanzania already through as co-hosts, meaning Nigeria face a must-win match against the improving Guinea-Bissau. (Daily Trust)
