The Anambra State Police Command operatives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Thursday arrested 25-year-old Olisa Oyelu, aka, Obele, the last identified member of the notorious armed robbery and kidnapping gang

Oyelu was arrested in connection with a 2023 kidnapping incident that resulted in the death of the victim.

According to a statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect was allegedly led by a suspected criminal known as “Pincode”.

The statement said that, at the conclusion of the investigative proceedings, the Command would hand over Olisa Oyelu to the Correctional Centre, where Pincode and four others are already being remanded pending the judgment of the court.

Ikenga explained that the arrest followed sustained intelligence gathering and painstaking investigation by police operatives.

He noted that the suspect was alleged to have been an active member of the gang involved in a kidnapping operation.

The statement read in part, “Following the incident, the Police commenced an extensive investigation aimed at identifying, arresting and prosecuting all persons connected with the crime.

“The arrest represented a significant development in the ongoing investigation.”

While reiterating its commitment to ensuring that all persons found to have participated in the crime were brought to justice, the statement added, “The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna OOi Ama commended the operatives for their perseverance, dedication and intelligence-led approach to the investigation.

“The CP assured Ndi Anambra that the Command would continue to pursue criminal elements within and outside the State until they were brought before the law.

“The Commissioner further urged members of the public to continue providing the Police with credible and timely information.

The Commissioner however noted that security remains a shared responsibility.
