Bayelsa Deputy Governor Peter Akpe
Bayelsa State Government has said its 30th anniversary celebration will be headlined with an exhibition of 30, 000 cakes in a potential Guinness World Records attempt.
Deputy Governor Peter Akpe, who made this known yesterday, said the anniversary activities would hold from September 28 to October 1.
He says the celebration is a comprehensive and people-centred event, designed to celebrate all ‘Bayelsans’, adding that an independent committee has been set up to nominate eminent citizens deserving of recognition
He disclosed that Governor Douye Diri will deliver the anniversary broadcast, to be followed by a media chat on 1st October, 2026.
According to him, the celebration will kick off on Sunday, September 28, with an Ijaw language awareness programme, sporting events featuring football matches, wrestling and other sports.
Dr. Akpe said a cultural float from Igbogene, a suburb of Yenagoa, would culminate in a boat regatta at Ox-bow Lake.
He said all eight local government areas are expected to showcase their cultural heritage, adding that a prize would
be instituted for the best performing local government.
He said the anniversary celebration would provide an opportunity for ‘Bayelsans’ to reflect on the state’s journey and chart a course for the future, while giving thanks to God. (The Nation)
