Sheikh Ibrahim bin Adel Hamza Al-Madani, the muezzin of the Makkah Grand Mosque, Masjid Al Haram, has died, after reportedly delivering his final Adhan (call to prayer) on Monday.

His death was announced early Monday by Inside the Haramain in a post on X.

According to the post, Al-Madani raised his final Adhan at Masjid Al-Haram on 11 Rabi Al-Awwal 1448 AH.

The post said, “It is with great sadness that we share the news of the death of the Muadhin of Masjid Al Haram, Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Madani.

“The final Adhan raised by Sheikh Ibrahim Al Madani in Masjid Al Haram on 11 Rabi Al Awwal 1448.”

The post stated that the funeral prayer for the late muezzin was scheduled to be held after the Asr prayer on Monday at Masjid Al-Haram, adding that he would be buried at Al-Mu‘alla Cemetery in Makkah.

Al-Madani was formally appointed as a muezzin of Masjid Al-Haram in 1439 AH, corresponding to 2017–2018.

Born in Madinah in 1397 AH (1976), Al-Madani was raised in a religious family and developed an early connection with the Adhan.

According to reports, his paternal grandfather, a memoriser of the Qur’an, played an important role in shaping his religious upbringing.

Al-Madani began serving as a muezzin at 15 years at a neighbourhood mosque in Madinah.

He shared the responsibility with three other young men from the neighbourhood, taking turns to call worshippers to prayer while continuing his education.

He later stepped away from the role for a period because of teaching commitments outside Madinah.

In 1428 AH (2007–2008), he was invited to resume calling the Adhan at Masjid Al-Maddah, where he continued until his appointment to Masjid Al-Haram about a decade later.

Having spent his formative years in Madinah, Al-Madani was strongly influenced by the Madinan style of the Adhan.

He also became familiar with the distinctive Makkan style during visits to Makkah with his father. During those visits, he reportedly met Sheikh Abdul Latif Mulla, a former muezzin of Masjid Al-Haram and a friend of his grandfather.

Following the announcement of his death, Inside the Haramain prayed for Allah’s mercy upon Al-Madani and for his reward for serving as a muezzin at the Sacred House.

The post added, “We ask Allah to envelop him in His vast mercy, raise his rank among the rightly guided, and reward him with the best of rewards for his service in calling the Adhan at the Sacred House of Allah.” (Daily Trust)
