The Cross River State Commissioner for Power, Dr Eka Williams, has reportedly died.

Sources close to the family said his death had plunged his family, friends and members of his native Akparabong community in Ikom Local Government Area into mourning.

Family sources confirmed the death on Sunday, September 13, 2026, as reported by Hit FM Calabar.

Although the circumstances surrounding his death have not been made public, Williams reportedly collapsed in Abuja and died while receiving treatment in a hospital in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

His death came as a shock to those close to him, particularly as he was said to have remained active in recent days.

A close friend of the late commissioner said Williams was with them during Governor Bassey Otu’s recent visit to Ikom.

The friend added that the governor later invited Williams to his residence for an assessment meeting following the visit.

Confirming Williams' death, his brother, Nkang Williams, expressed shock over the sudden demise.

“I am still struggling to accept that my brother, who was recently with my family, has suddenly become a memory,” Nkang said.

He said despite the family’s grief, they would continue to celebrate the life of the commissioner, whom he described as a man who touched lives, shared knowledge and built lasting relationships.

“His name will not simply be forgotten because he died; he will be remembered because he lived a worthy life. That is what matters,” he said.

Eka William is the second commissioner to die under the administration of Governor Bassey Otu.
