No fewer than 58 candidates are contesting the three available National Assembly seats in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), according to the final list of candidates released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday.
The list showed that major political parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and Labour Party (LP), have fielded candidates for the Senate and House of Representatives elections. For the FCT’s only senatorial seat, incumbent Senator Ireti Kingibe is contesting on the platform of the ADC, while former Senator Philip Aduda is the APC candidate.
Other senatorial candidates are Musa Dalhat (Accord), Omotosho Ololade (AA), Rabiu Adekunle (ADP), Ibe Tochukwu Collins (APP), Chuks Achusi (APGA), Adamu Umar Yahaya (APM), Ayeni Adekunle Kazeem (AAC), Ibrahim Musa (DLA), Joshua Mamah (LP), Omiloli Teddy (NDP), Abe Fisayo Makanjuola (NRM), Olusina Temilolu Oyebisi (NNPP), Austen Peters-Pam Amanda (NDC), Angulu Bako (PDP), Muoneme Juliet Hassana (PRP), Osho Olarewaju (SDP), Benyeogor Blessing Ugedojo (YPP) and Asikhia Uwakhemen Festus (ZLP).
The current member representing AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Chinedu Obika, is also contesting the seat against 21 other candidates on the platform of Accord.
Obika was elected on the platform of the Labour Party before defecting to the APC. He later moved to the ADC and subsequently the NDC, but failed to secure the party’s ticket before joining Accord.
His counterpart representing Abuja South, Ajiya Abdulrahman, failed to secure the ticket at the primaries.
Meanwhile, in Osun State, about 120 candidates are listed for the nine available National Assembly seats.
Of the number, 39 candidates are contesting the three senatorial seats, while 81 are vying for the nine House of Representatives seats.
In Kwara State, 65 candidates are listed for the six House of Representatives seats, while 35 are contesting the three senatorial seats.
In Kogi State, 94 candidates will contest the nine House of Representatives seats, while 42 others are vying for the three senatorial seats. (The Nation)
