A Moroccan woman, Khadija Diab, whose husband, Nasiru Idris Musa, has made claims about her whereabouts on social media, is not with Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, her lawyer, Bilkisu Abdulrasheed Chedi, has said.

Her lawyer said she had been in Morocco since April.

Chedi, Executive Director of Women Aware of Rights Initiative, said Khadija returned to Morocco in April 2026 after the organisation facilitated an emergency travel document for her following the alleged seizure of her international passport by her husband.

She disclosed this in a video clip explaining the circumstances surrounding the case.

The video was shared on the verified Facebook page of Dr Ahmad Gumi on Tuesday amid the controversy generated by the woman’s husband on social media.

According to the lawyer, Khadija has spent about six months in Morocco and is currently with her family.

“So all the allegations that she has been with Sheikh Gumi are false and unfounded because it’s not possible for a person to be in two different countries at the same time,” Chedi said.

She said Khadija’s family informed the organisation after her arrival in Morocco that she had landed safely and was staying with them.

Chedi said Khadija had approached Women Aware of Rights Initiative in October, 2025, alleging serious domestic abuse, inadequate feeding and maintenance, as well as being subjected to what she described as an “unlawful and unnatural conjugal relationship” by her husband.

She said the organisation advised the woman to undergo medical tests following her allegations, adding that the result indicated that she had contracted sexually transmitted diseases.

The lawyer said Khadija subsequently made it clear that she no longer wanted to remain in the marriage, alleging emotional and physical abuse.

Chedi said a case was instituted on Khadija’s behalf at the Area Sharia Court, Daura Road, Kaduna, where the matter was first mentioned on October 3, 2025.

She said the case was later adjourned to November 11, 2025, after the defendant’s counsel filed a motion for reconciliation.

According to her, the legal process was subsequently delayed after the defendant changed lawyers, with the new counsel challenging the jurisdiction of the court.

The lawyer said the case was also affected by the absence of lawyers in court and the judicial strike in Kaduna, adding that Khadija later became emotionally distressed and wanted to return home.

Chedi said because the woman’s international passport was allegedly in the possession of her husband, the organisation helped her obtain a travel document from the Kingdom of Morocco.

She added that Moroccan immigration authorities confirmed that Khadija had arrived safely, while the Moroccan Embassy in Nigeria also informed the organisation of her arrival.

Chedi said Khadija had, before leaving Nigeria, delegated her to continue with the legal proceedings on her behalf.

She said the case at the Daura Road Sharia Court was discontinued on June 10, 2026, while another case was filed in July seeking dissolution of the marriage under Sharia law.

The lawyer urged the public to disregard claims that Khadija was being kept by Gumi, saying the purpose of her statement was to “clear the air” over the controversy surrounding the woman’s whereabouts. (Daily Trust)
