The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has tracked a murder suspect believed to have fled to Ghana, following a viral video circulating on social media.
Force Public Relations Officer CSP Ani Iniedu disclosed the development, saying the Police had commenced efforts to apprehend the suspect and ensure he is brought back to Nigeria to face justice.
The breakthrough followed intelligence generated from the video, which investigators reportedly analysed to trace the suspect’s movements and possible location in Ghana.
CSP Iniedu said the development underscored the growing role of technology, digital intelligence, and international police cooperation in tracking criminal suspects who try to evade justice by fleeing across national borders.
He said the force was working through relevant channels and collaborating with appropriate authorities to establish the suspect’s exact location and facilitate his arrest.
According to him, the investigation remains active, with detectives following every available lead to ensure the suspect is apprehended.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains resolute in its commitment to ensuring that no criminal suspect escapes justice simply by crossing national borders,” the Force spokesman said.
She added that the Police would continue to deploy intelligence-led policing, technology, and international cooperation to tackle serious crimes and bring suspects to justice.
The Police spokesman also noted that the viral video provided investigators with useful intelligence, which helped narrow the search for the suspect.
The development has again highlighted the growing importance of digital footprints in modern criminal investigations, as social media platforms and other technological tools increasingly provide law enforcement agencies with valuable leads.
Investigators are also examining the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s alleged departure from Nigeria and whether he received assistance in fleeing the country.
CSP Iniedu assured Nigerians that the Police would pursue the case to its logical conclusion and ensure that all those found to be connected with the crime are brought to book.
She said the force would not relent in strengthening collaboration with international law enforcement agencies in the fight against transnational crime.
The Police have, however, yet to disclose further details about the identity of the suspect, the circumstances surrounding the alleged murder, or the specific location in Ghana where he was traced. (The Nation)
