The management of the Abia State University (ABSU), Uturu, has lifted the suspension of Prof. Nnamdi Nwaeze of the Department of Economics, Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences.

Prof. Nwaeze was reportedly suspended as a result of his Facebook post following a recent industrial action at the state university, in which he alleged that professors in the university were paid less than N400,000 monthly as salary.

Acting Registrar, Dr. Joy Nwankwo, in a statement yesterday, recalled that the institution had, in a memo, ABSU/REG/26/8, dated August 12, 2026, suspended the staff member.

She said the decision by the management to recall the suspended staff followed a written plea from the university chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU-ABSU) to the university management.

According to the ABSU Acting Registrar, the recall is with immediate effect.

Nwankwo, however, added that the lifting of the suspension “is, however, without prejudice to the extant investigative panel on you, whose ultimate report is being awaited.”

Nwaeze described the lifting of his suspension by the school management as a “Greek gift”.

Reacting to the action of the management on his official Facebook handle, Nwaeze, while thanking those who had stood by him since his suspension by the management of ABSU, said he never committed any crime that would warrant his suspension.

He said: “Let me start by lavishly thanking every one of you who stood to be counted when it mattered most and resisted tyranny, oppression, suppression, and my politically premeditated suspension on the 12th of August, 2026.

“It is obvious that without your deafening and vociferous support, solidarity, and advocacy, which arm-twisted the hands of the aggressors, this momentary victory wouldn’t have been possible.

“On this note, I want to appreciate all of you for your unwavering support, even at the expense of personal comfort.

“However, with reference to the last paragraph of the said recall letter, it is evidently clear that this is a momentary reprieve.

“While it has become difficult and unfashionable to continue with the ill-fated and provocative suspension, they have merely retreated but haven’t surrendered to good conscience and justice.

“The recall letter, therefore, is a mere Greek gift offered firstly to prevent ASUU-ABSU from resuming the suspended strike at the expiration of the September 4 ultimatum given.

“Secondly, but more importantly, they offered this Greek gift to buy time and continue to shop for non-existent offences that could be ascribed to me to achieve a premeditated and prejudiced outcome, either to silence me, sack me, or drag my highly reputed name through the mud. I am very much aware, vigilant, and alert to these antics of stooping to deceive.

“Dear friends, while I am in no way unblemished or infallible, neither am I above investigations that are well-intended and properly constituted; it is my conviction that I have not committed any offence or misconduct in my services to Abia State University and, by extension, society. My ordeal is politically engineered.

“Let me put it on record that before now, I have been hunted and subjected to several different panels in the past two to three years; of which, fortunately, none has indicted me.

“Unfortunately, rather than embracing peace and harmony, these persecutions have continued, culminating in the ill-fated suspension.

“I, therefore, wish to put the world on notice that all these are politically premeditated and sponsored, using ABSU as the machinery.

“While I believe that Governor Otti may not have contracted any of these gladiators to hunt me down, it has become expedient that he call his overzealous machinery to order.

“Let me also use this opportunity to thank the governor for showing good faith so far with regard to the improved welfare packages of ABSU staff, which I earnestly advocated for.” (The Nation)
