The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has reunited six-year-old Haneem Hussaini Bello, who was found wandering around the NNPC Towers in Abuja’s Central Business District, with his grandmother.

The child was reunited with his grandmother on Saturday, barely a day after he was found and the police launched an appeal for information to trace his family.

The FCT Police Command, in a statement issued by its Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the child’s grandmother, who had been with him before he became separated from his family, was identified and contacted following the Command’s appeal to members of the public.

According to the statement, Haneem was safely handed over to his grandmother after due verification by the police.

The Command expressed appreciation to members of the public for their support, cooperation and timely information, which it said contributed to the successful identification of the child’s family.

It added that the successful reunification demonstrated the importance of collaboration between security agencies and members of the public in resolving such incidents.

Haneem was found wandering around the NNPC Towers in Abuja’s Central Business District on September 4.

The six-year-old reportedly told those who found him that he had travelled to Abuja from Bauchi State with his mother and siblings for the summer break.

He was said to have accompanied his family to the Central Mosque for Juma’a prayers before becoming separated from them.

The FCT Police Command subsequently issued a public appeal, seeking useful information to help reunite the child with his family.

The appeal yielded results less than 24 hours later, leading to the identification of his grandmother and the child’s safe reunification with his family. (The Nation)
