The Bauchi State Police Command has ordered an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged inability of a police corporal, F/No. 524180, CPL Yusuf Aliyu, to access his salary for the past two years.

This was contained in statement signed by Nafiu Habib, Police Public Relations Officer, for the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command.

According to Habib, a Superintendent of Police, Aliyu had reportedly raised the issue in a letter circulating on social media and subsequently announced his purported resignation from the Nigeria Police Force.

However, the Bauchi State Police Command, in a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, said the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, had ordered a discreet and thorough investigation into the matter.

The Command said preliminary findings indicated that Aliyu’s salary had been “paid promptly and consistently” by the police authorities during the period under review.

According to the statement, the difficulty allegedly experienced by the officer in accessing his salary was linked to a discrepancy in his Bank Verification Number (BVN).

The Command explained that the name associated with the officer’s BVN was different from the name on his salary account, which it said resulted in a restriction on the account.

The police authorities, however, did not disclose the amount allegedly involved, the specific duration of the account restriction, or whether the discrepancy had been resolved.

While responding to the officer’s use of social media to publicise his grievance, the Command said personnel were expected to use established internal mechanisms to seek redress.

It described the officer’s action as contrary to the Nigeria Police Force Social Media Policy and said it could amount to an attempt to discredit the Command and the Force.

The Command nevertheless assured officers and men that their welfare remained a priority, adding that genuine complaints would receive appropriate attention.

The Commissioner of Police also urged personnel to comply with the Force’s Social Media Policy and channel grievances through the appropriate administrative procedures.

The Command said it remained committed to discipline, professionalism and the welfare of its personnel. (The Sun)
