Troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force
Troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) Sector 3, in collaboration with credible intelligence sources, have arrested 11 suspected terrorists and collaborators during a three-day operation in Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State.
The operation, which commenced at about 6:30 a.m. on August 29, was launched to identify and apprehend suspected terrorists, their collaborators, couriers and spies operating within the Sector 3 area of responsibility.
Zagazola Makama reports that the operation coincided with the weekly Saturday market activities in Monguno, when the town typically experiences increased movement of people.
On the first day of the operation, troops of Headquarters Sector 3 were deployed alongside credible sources to various entry and exit points into Monguno town.
The security personnel also conducted surveillance operations within the town as part of efforts to identify individuals suspected of having links with terrorist networks.
The coordinated intelligence-led operation resulted in the identification and arrest of 11 suspects.
Those arrested comprised eight suspected terrorist collaborators, two suspected couriers or spies and one suspected terrorist.
The suspects and items recovered from them have been taken into custody at Headquarters Sector 3 for further investigation and necessary action.
Military sources said the operation is still ongoing as troops continue to exploit available intelligence to identify additional suspects and disrupt terrorist support networks within the area.
The operation is part of broader efforts by the military to deny terrorists access to logistical, intelligence and human support networks in communities within the theatre.
Meanwhile, the general security situation across the North-East theatre remains calm but unpredictable.
The military said the morale and fighting efficiency of troops remain satisfactory as ongoing operations continue against terrorist groups and their collaborators.
Authorities are expected to provide further details on the outcome of the ongoing operation as investigations progress. (Zagazola)
