Unveiled NDC Edo National Assembly candidates
The Edo State Chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially presented its candidates for the Senate and House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging them to immediately commence grassroots mobilisation across the state.
The presentation, held In Benin City, attracted party stakeholders, political leaders, supporters, well-wishers and members of the media, with the event characterised by celebrations and expressions of support for the party’s candidates.
The State Publicity Secretary of the party, Azeez Obogeh, in a statement on Wednesday, said the exercise demonstrated the party’s political unity and preparedness for the forthcoming elections.
The three senatorial candidates presented were John Yakubu for Edo Central, Oisamoje Maria Evuarherhe for Edo North, and Epelle-Asemota Bridgette for Edo South.
The party also unveiled eight candidates for the House of Representatives. They are Ernest Michael for Orhionmwon/Uhunmwonde; Aiguobarueghian Charity Iguodala for Ovia North East/Ovia South West; Erhuanga Grant for Owan Federal Constituency; Obaro Rasak for Akoko-Edo; and Agbonkhehi Charles for Esan Central/Esan West/Igueben.
Others are Bawa Muhammed Qaleeph for Etsako East/Etsako West/Etsako Central; Omoruyi Murphy Osaro for Egor/Ikpoba-Okha; and Omosigho Frank for Oredo Federal Constituency.
The presentation was led by the Edo State Chairman of the party, Engr. David Olukoga, who said the selection and nomination processes complied with democratic principles, constitutional requirements and the party’s internal guidelines.
According to the chairman, the candidates’ names and credentials had been ratified, verified and uploaded on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal.
He described the development as an indication of the party’s commitment to due process and institutional compliance, adding that it would strengthen the legitimacy of the candidates ahead of the elections.
The event was also attended by the three zonal caucus leaders—Dr. Sylva Afe Oshiokpekai, Edo North Caucus Leader; Bishop Isaac Idahosa, Edo South Caucus Leader; and Chief Peter Ojeman, Edo Central Caucus Leader.
The caucus leaders congratulated the candidates and urged them to take the party’s campaign to their respective constituencies.
Olukoga, while congratulating the newly unveiled flagbearers, charged them to move beyond celebration and immediately begin aggressive grassroots mobilisation.
He directed the candidates to establish strong campaign structures across polling units, wards and local government areas, while maintaining close engagement with voters.
The chairman further urged the candidates to serve as credible ambassadors of the NDC by demonstrating integrity, competence and commitment to public service.
He also called on party members, support groups and other stakeholders to work collectively to promote the party’s manifesto and build a strong voting bloc ahead of the 2027 elections.
The party leadership, according to Obogeh, is seeking coordinated support for all NDC candidates in Edo State, as well as its presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi.
The NDC said the unveiling marked another step in its preparations for the 2027 elections and called on its supporters to commence sustained grassroots engagement across the state.
