The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has said it is focused on winning elections in Enugu State beginning with next month’s local government election in the state.

It therefore, urged it’s supporters and residents to be steadfast, insisting that it would prioritise welfare and development at the grassroots upon achieving victory

State Chairman of the party, Dr John Paul Anih, who led other officials on a campaign tour of Ezeagu local government area, stated that the party was in for serious business and would use the election to test it’s acceptance in the state.

Anih, who was accompanied by members of the State Working Committee and other party leaders, said the NDC was determined to provide credible, accountable and people-oriented leadership at the grassroots.

He said the party’s candidates had been carefully selected based on their competence, integrity, capacity and commitment to the development of their respective communities.

Anih appealed to the people of Ezeagu to support the NDC and vote massively for all its candidates during the September 26 council elections, assuring them that an NDC administration would prioritise the welfare and development of the people.

He also called on the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) and security agencies to provide a level playing field for all participating political parties and ensure that the election is conducted in a free, fair, transparent and credible manner.

The chairman expressed confidence in the party’s capacity to emerge victorious at the polls, saying the growing acceptance of the party across Ezeagu and other parts of the state was a reflection of the people’s desire for a credible alternative.

Anih, however, warned against any attempt to manipulate the electoral process, stressing that the NDC would resist every form of electoral malpractice or intimidation across the 20 electoral wards in Ezeagu Local Government Area.

He urged NDC supporters and voters to remain vigilant, peaceful and committed to protecting their votes throughout the electoral process.

Earlier, the NDC Chairman in Ezeagu Local Government Area, Nonso Ukwuani, thanked the Dr. Johnpaul Anih-led State Working Committee for taking the party’s campaign to Ezeagu and for providing strong leadership for the party.

Ukwuani said the NDC candidates were better prepared to provide effective and responsive leadership at the grassroots, urging the people to vote for the party and remain vigilant in protecting their votes.

The NDC chairmanship candidate for Ezeagu Local Government Area, Robert Ezinwa, also thanked the state leadership and members of the party for their confidence in his candidacy.

Ezinwa pledged that, if elected, his administration would prioritise the welfare of the people and embark on a comprehensive development agenda focused on education, agriculture, youth and women empowerment, healthcare and other critical sectors.

He promised a total overhaul of the local education system, greater support for farmers, expanded opportunities for young people and women, as well as improved access to quality healthcare for residents of the local government.

Also speaking, chieftains of the NDC in Enugu State, Maurice Ebue and Ann Okeke urged the people of Ezeagu to seize the opportunity presented by the election to vote for candidates who, according to them, possess the capacity and commitment to transform the local government.

Ebue said the NDC remained committed to grassroots development and inclusive governance, urging party supporters to take the campaign message to every ward, polling unit and community across Ezeagu.

He called on the electorate to come out in large numbers on election day and exercise their franchise peacefully, while also protecting their votes.

Highlight of the campaign was the official presentation of the NDC chairmanship candidate, Robert Ezinwa, his running mate, Ifeanyi Okafor, alongside the party’s 20 councilorship candidates to the mammoth crowd.
