Denge Josef Onoh, former South-East spokesman for the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to review the newly released 223-member All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) list for the 2027 elections.

In a memorandum addressed to the President, Onoh expressed concern over what he described as inadequate representation of major party stakeholders and loyalists from the South-East in the campaign council.

He urged Tinubu to ensure broader regional representation in the campaign structure, saying greater inclusivity would strengthen the party’s support base and promote a sense of ownership among party members across the country.

Onoh said the 2023 presidential campaign provided a broader platform for stakeholders from different regions to participate and urged the APC to maintain a similar approach ahead of the 2027 election.

He expressed concern that several South-East stakeholders who contributed to the 2023 campaign appeared to have limited representation in the new structure.

According to him, the situation could affect the mobilisation of party supporters in the region if not addressed.

Onoh also called for a review of the campaign council’s communication structure, urging the President to ensure that experienced political communicators and media professionals are adequately represented.

He said an effective communication strategy would be important in presenting the administration’s achievements, responding to policy debates and communicating the APC’s message to voters ahead of the election.

He therefore appealed to Tinubu to review the composition of the council and consider adjustments that would strengthen geopolitical balance and accommodate experienced party stakeholders.

Specifically, Onoh urged the President to review the 223-member campaign council to ensure broader representation; increase the participation of South-East party leaders and grassroots mobilisers in key campaign structures; strengthen the communication team with experienced political and media professionals; and maintain an inclusive campaign structure capable of mobilising support across all geopolitical zones.

“Mr President, do not let the short-sighted selfishness of a few handlers ruin the future of your administration. You cannot win a national re-election by shrinking your support base and telling an entire region they have no stake in your campaign,” Onoh said.

He urged the President to use the review process to strengthen unity within the APC and build a campaign structure that reflects the diversity of the party’s support base. (The Nation)
