Chairman of the National Assembly Service Commission(NASC), Dr. Saviour Enyiekere has said that over 800 staff of the commission whose promotions were delayed for many years have been promoted.
Dr. Enyiekere, who disclosed this to our correspondent in Uyo over the weekend, said that the commission under his watch has successfully expunged ghost workers thereby repositioning the commission for efficiency.
He said, “Since taking charge of the Commission, my focus has been on clearing long-standing backlogs and repositioning the institution for efficiency.
“Within months of my resumption, over 800 staff members with overdue promotions had their cases approved and executed. This is the most decisive intervention on career progression in recent years.
“The Commission under my watch has also resolved pending disciplinary and welfare matters inherited, and those that arose in the last one year, with an emphasis on fairness and due process.
“This administrative diligence reflected in the Commission’s absence from the recent ICPC list of MDAs with ghost workers”.
Dr. Enyiekere, a former deputy chief of staff to the Senate President Godswill Akpabio, added that since assuming office last year, he conducted a recruitment exercise into the Commission.
“In less than three months after I took over as the 6th Chairman of the NASC, the first from the Southsouth, I embarked a major staff recruitment exercise.
“And I want to assure that future recruitment will be transparent and publicly announced, in line with the commission’s commitment to openness”.
On human capital development, the NASC chairman revealed that he has organized training programmes for staff and legislative aides, both local and international, now being implemented without backlog.
Dr. Enyiekere added that he has further advanced proposals for the inauguration of the National Assembly Pension Board, the construction of dedicated legislative quarters, and the full digitization of service records, all aimed at aligning the legislative service with global best practices.
