Heavy security in Kaduna PHCN ahead of investors visit

A security web has been woven at the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) Kaduna zonal office North-West Nigeria ahead of today’s scheduled visit by investors.

Some workers who spoke to our reporter said security was beefed up since Saturday to prevent aggrieved staff from harassing the investors. The Kaduna Disco (Distribution Company) was won by Northwest Power Ltd during the privatisation exercise the result of which was announced in August.

The Kaduna zonal office comprising Kaduna, Kebbi and Sokoto are among few zones that are yet to receive staff severance packages. This has generated tension and anxiety in the organisation which resulted to resistance of any visit by investors or officials of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE).

Ahmed Musa, Secretary of the Nigerian Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), Doka Business Centre, Kaduna, however dismissed speculations that members of the union were planning to disrupt activities during the visit of the core investors.

“The story going the rounds that our members are intending to disrupt activities is not true. We just woke up on Saturday to witness heavy security presence at the zonal office. The Managing Direction for the zone promised to brief us tomorrow (Monday). We shall get back to you later,” Musa said.
