The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has restored four more previously suppressed State House of Assembly constituencies in Delta and Kogi.

Malam Mohammed Haruna, National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Abuja.

According to Haruna, the three restored state constituencies are in Delta and one in Kogi.

He explained that the action was in pursuant to the judgment of courts directing the commission to restore the additional constituencies in the two states.

He listed the restored constituencies in Delta as Abraka, Isoko North II and Ughelli South II State Constituencies, while that of Kogi is Yagba West II State Constituency.

He also disclosed that the commission had fixed Aug. 21 to Aug. 25 for the conduct of party primaries for the restored constituencies.

“This coincides with the period for the conduct of primaries for by-elections to fill recent vacancies into Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency of Gombe State, Disina and Sakwa State Constituencies of Bauchi State, Udu State Constituency of Delta State, and Dawakin Kudu State Constituency of Kano State.

“Elections into these constituencies have been fixed for Sept.19.

“For the avoidance of doubt, all other timelines and activities contained in the already published revised timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections shall apply to the restored constituencies,” he said.

Haruna noted that political parties have been requested to submit notices of their various primaries to the commission before the scheduled dates.

The national commissioner pledged that the commission remains committed to ensuring credible, inclusive and transparent electoral processes. (NAN)
