Malawi and Cameroon have reached the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final after contrasting semi-final victories on Wednesday.
Malawi defeated Algeria 3-1, with Tabitha Chawinga scoring twice and her sister Temwa adding another goal. Cameroon, meanwhile, edged hosts Morocco 3-1 on penalties after a goalless draw.
Cameroon goalkeeper Michaely Bihina was the hero in the shootout, saving four Morocco penalties before Myriam Maéva Nyadjou converted the decisive kick.
All four semi-finalists — Malawi, Cameroon, Morocco and Algeria — have also qualified for next summer’s Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
For Malawi and Algeria, it will be their first appearance at the tournament.
Morocco will make its second World Cup appearance after reaching the last 16 in 2023, while Cameroon have previously featured in the 2015 and 2019 editions.
The WAFCON final between Malawi and Cameroon will take place on Sunday. (Vanguard)
